A Visualization of the Urban Legend Called, Man Made Global Warming

About the only truth pertaining to Man Made Global Warming is that there are many people across the world making tons of money by perpetrating a junk science hoax. Just as in the previous Nuclear Winter scare of the 80s, there is no basis for the fears that are being manipulated by those who are profiteering from this absurd science. Worse yet is that if one calls a Global Warming Alarmist (GWA) out on their claims then they will get the patented answer of, the debate is over.

I think not. One has to have a debate before the issues can be resolved. Yet the GWAs will not debate their evidence because they have none. If there is evidence anywhere to prove Man Made Global Warming as fact it has yet to be supported by reputable men of science. Therefore, the best recourse for these GWA profiteers is to claim that a debate which proved their claims has actually occurred. That brings to mind the following famous quote:

"Make the lie big, make it simple, keep saying it, and eventually they will believe it." - Adolph Hitler

I will attempt to prove the absurdity of blaming man for the acceleration of Global Warming by first providing some basic botany facts and then a couple of visualizations which anyone can do at home. Bear in mind, these examples are for visualizing how small man actually is on this planet.

Through normal Photosynthesis, algae and cyanobacterium in marine environments provide about 70% of the free oxygen produced on earth. The remainder of Earth's overabundant oxygen is produced by plants like trees, shrubbery, grasses, flowers, et al. In fact just three average sized trees can provide one person with enough oxygen for their entire life. Now imagine how many trees there are on Earth.

For the first graphic experiment one needs to agree that there are 300 million people living in the United States. Now what we will do is to multiply that number by three feet in length per every man, woman and child. The three feet is what we will say is the average width of each of the 300 million people, from shoulder to shoulder. That leaves us with a line of 300 million people stretching shoulder to shoulder for 900 million feet in length.

The entire 50 United States has 12,383 miles of coastline and 7,458 miles of International Boundaries with Mexico and Canada. Which means the little thin outline on a map of the continental USA, complete with an insert of Hawaii and Alaska stretches 19,841 miles in length. Multiply these miles by 5,280 feet and the length of the USA outline stretches out to 104.8 million feet.

Now all we have to do is to figure out how many times we can run our line of 900 million "people feet" around the boundaries and coasts of the United States map. Through dividing the 900 million in people feet by the 104.8 million in USA outline we will get a total of 8.6 rows of people stretching around the entire USA map and inserts. Now if each person is averaged out at being two feet in depth then our rows would become 17.2 feet deep by 104.8 million feet long. At that thickness this line would not even be visible from low earth orbit!

Now look at the entire United States. One can see nothing but green and blue with a few sprinkles of beige for deserts. All of this green and blue and a small portion of beige produce oxygen. That is the entire oxygen producing ground cover of the United States. The CO2 emitting lines of people are not even visible at all. So how can one say that man is affecting the land?

For the second graphic experiment all we need to do is multiply 300 million people by six square feet (their footprint). That is an allocation of three feet by two feet for every single person in the USA. This results in approximately 1.8 billion square feet of people. Divide this by the total square feet of a square mile (27.9 million) and you will get an area of 64.6 square miles. That is actually a smaller area than Reno, Nevada! Which compared to a USA map would be like throwing a golf ball out onto a football field. The grass of the field would produce oxygen while the golf ball would represent the 300 million people producing CO2. Still think man can affect the earth?

To account for emissions from factories, transportation and animals, let us get crazy and just toss a volley ball out onto the football field instead of the golf ball. Even then, there is plenty of green on the field producing an overabundance of life sustaining oxygen.

Quick Science Fair Projects For All Ages

A quick science fair project can be less time consuming and it will not be too taxing for an eager student to wait for the results or target of the experiment to emerge. Also, a science fair project should be interesting and inspiring to a student. If the project is due and if time is running out, a quick science fair project can be done. Step-by-step instructions with tips prove to be of great help. The ideas for a quick project can be had from books, internet, TV programs and newspapers; or it can be ones original idea. Either way, a quick science fair project is just as valid and has just as many reasons it can succeed as a long, in depth study, though you do need to follow the basic guidelines.

To give a jumpstart to your project, you must first get all the materials needed ready before starting. The materials needed for a quick science fair project must be easily accessible from home, naturally (in your backyard, for instance) or a local shop. Always keep in mind that your experiment should be based on scientific principles. Instead of just displaying a project that someone else has already done, consider adding personal input to make yours stand out and be much more meaningful. Have a clear idea about what the judges will be looking for. This will help you to refine the experiment to score good grades.

The student's experiments are demonstrated for the audience who are usually from other local schools and parents of students. Projects should benefit them and also be of interest to them. The judges will also be looking at the utility value of the conclusion or the results of your study. These are the people who are doing the voting on the projects, and they are the ones you must impress if you have any plans of winning the science fair. If you do it right, there may be scholarship opportunities or other prizes available to make it worth your while. Even without a prize as a motivator, you still need to earn a passing grade, and you can't do that without interesting the person to whom you are presenting.

The science fair encourages the students to demonstrate the scientific methods with the help of experiments. They encourage originality and creativity. The project can be chosen from any area of science; like biology, physics, chemistry, etc. Some have to be repeatedly experimented to check for consistency before displaying it in the fair, though in a crunch, this does not need to happen for a quick science fair project. Avoid selecting such projects that will be time consuming which may not be in a position to sustain the interest. Anything involving plants or animals should not be considered if a project needs to be done quickly.

Before starting the project, make a timetable and stick to it, as time is of essence for a fast experiment. For electrical experiments and chemistry projects, seek safety advice first. Plant growth experiments need growing conditions and can take a considerable amount of time. Unfortunately, these will not be suitable for last minute projects. Regardless, there are still many options to consider and plenty of information available in books or on the internet if you know where to look.

Quick science fair projects must have a solid abstract. It includes the title and purpose of the project, hypothesis, procedure, result and conclusion. Ideas for quick science fair projects can be searched on the web, and there are many paid guides available for download that will lay out, step by step, a quick science fair project that can be completed and written up in an afternoon. A hypothesis can be proved right or wrong by scientific methods. Importantly the student should be able to understand this and explain their project in his or her own words.

Does Time Really Exist; Is Time Real

Many people have reason to believe that Time does not exist and will simply not accept it just because these are considered generally accepted truths. In fact this is exactly how the conversation started at our Online Think Tank recently. Indeed this is wise thinking and it is amazing what people can be led to believe by mass media hysteria or often culture or educational indoctrination.

Although there is observational evidence that time might exist this is not to say that it actually does. In fact time as we know it may not exist; it could be just our perception, would not surprise me in the least. There are some experiments going on right now that might shake things to its core if they prove out. Our research scientists may be in for a mind-blowing discovery and these truths will change the way we live.

Mark from Houston a guest of our Online Think Tank states that: Time is quite necessary for many calculations and theories, but that doesn't mean it exists. Therefore I'm more interested in equations that don't include time, and that throws the speed of light out the window.

Wow, now you can see why running an Online Think Tank is so much fun and yes we talk about this a lot. For instance the Washington State University Experiment, we had actually discussed in the Online Think Tank before they announced their experiment.

Where a light was activated but the vibrational waves it creates would move out before the light and then those waves would turn off the starting of the light itself using co-axial cables capable of sending the signal to shut it off also faster than the speed of light, thus you have the vibrations from the light that never existed. Cool stuff to think about.

Here is an old article I wrote back in April of 2005;

http://ezinearticles.com/?Creating-Artificial-Time-in-a-Vacuum-With-Pulsed-Lasers&id=26011

Mark goes on to say; Furthermore, since time is not constant, even if it does exist, it immediately throws the hunter off the path of truth.

Indeed it would. Although it also depends on what you are hunting for and what you consider to be Truth? Philosophical argument I guess? Fun stuff. Well I hope you have enjoyed a glimpse into the Internet World of Online Think Tank hypotheticals. And perhaps this might propel thought in 2007.

Ten Things You Should Know About Pet Snakes

If you are one of the legions of people who have acquired, or are about to obtain a new pet snake, then you are also about to have a rewarding experience. Snakes have a lot to teach us. A properly maintained terrarium can be a work of art - many are prominently displayed in homes - so long as the snake keeper keeps some essential information in mind:

Be sure you give your snake enough heat - that means enough for the snake, not you. A snake is best kept at warmer, summer temperatures of 85 100 degrees F, unless being cooled for hibernation. Temperate zone species may tolerate a 30 degree drop in temperature at night, but tropical species rarely do well with such fluctuations.

Never, ever use your snake to scare somebody! Many people are afraid of snakes, some pathologically so. Using a snake to scare a person is irresponsible of you, may cause injury to another person, and is traumatic for the snake.

Be sure to feed your snake an adequate diet at appropriate intervals. Snakes under 3 feet in length should generally be fed prey about the size of an adult mouse once or twice a week. Larger snakes take more or larger prey at less frequent intervals. Truly large snakes may eat only once per year, but these are not snakes for novices.

Do not handle snakes after feeding, or until they have digested their meals. If a snake is handled too soon after eating, it is often likely to regurgitate the meal, and may refuse to feed for many days afterward.

Snakes must shed their skins, but they do much better if you do not help them. If the snake has been fed and watered well, it will grow, and the old skin is carefully broken by the snake and shed in one piece. If a snake sheds in patches, it may be dehydrated or have a nutritional disorder.

Do your homework! Buying a snake is not the same as knowing how to care for it properly. It is your responsibility to learn about your snake and any special needs it will have in captivity. For example, unless you carefully teach your snake otherwise, many have specialized diets: garter snakes eat fish and frogs, hognose snakes eat toads, and corn snakes eat small rodents and eggs.

Get a snake veterinarian lined up now. Snakes have a slower metabolism than us mammals, so they may manifest symptoms long after contracting an illness. Waiting to find a qualified vet until the snake is ill may be too late.

Clean the snake's cage as it becomes dirty - don't merely wait for Saturday morning. Only use appropriate disinfectants for a snake cage. You may use rubbing alcohol, soap, and specialty products available at your pet shop. Do not use chlorine bleaches or industrial cleansers such as Ajax or Comet, because their residues are often toxic to snakes. Lysol is particularly dangerous.

Always wash your hands well with soap and water after handling your snake or the cage accessories. Snakes, like most animals, may harbor dangerous bacteria such as Salmonella.

Okay, now go watch your snake and have some fun!

Dr. Sprackland started keeping snakes in 1960. There are still snakes in his life!
