Ten Things You Should Know About Pet Snakes

If you are one of the legions of people who have acquired, or are about to obtain a new pet snake, then you are also about to have a rewarding experience. Snakes have a lot to teach us. A properly maintained terrarium can be a work of art - many are prominently displayed in homes - so long as the snake keeper keeps some essential information in mind:

Be sure you give your snake enough heat - that means enough for the snake, not you. A snake is best kept at warmer, summer temperatures of 85 100 degrees F, unless being cooled for hibernation. Temperate zone species may tolerate a 30 degree drop in temperature at night, but tropical species rarely do well with such fluctuations.

Never, ever use your snake to scare somebody! Many people are afraid of snakes, some pathologically so. Using a snake to scare a person is irresponsible of you, may cause injury to another person, and is traumatic for the snake.

Be sure to feed your snake an adequate diet at appropriate intervals. Snakes under 3 feet in length should generally be fed prey about the size of an adult mouse once or twice a week. Larger snakes take more or larger prey at less frequent intervals. Truly large snakes may eat only once per year, but these are not snakes for novices.

Do not handle snakes after feeding, or until they have digested their meals. If a snake is handled too soon after eating, it is often likely to regurgitate the meal, and may refuse to feed for many days afterward.

Snakes must shed their skins, but they do much better if you do not help them. If the snake has been fed and watered well, it will grow, and the old skin is carefully broken by the snake and shed in one piece. If a snake sheds in patches, it may be dehydrated or have a nutritional disorder.

Do your homework! Buying a snake is not the same as knowing how to care for it properly. It is your responsibility to learn about your snake and any special needs it will have in captivity. For example, unless you carefully teach your snake otherwise, many have specialized diets: garter snakes eat fish and frogs, hognose snakes eat toads, and corn snakes eat small rodents and eggs.

Get a snake veterinarian lined up now. Snakes have a slower metabolism than us mammals, so they may manifest symptoms long after contracting an illness. Waiting to find a qualified vet until the snake is ill may be too late.

Clean the snake's cage as it becomes dirty - don't merely wait for Saturday morning. Only use appropriate disinfectants for a snake cage. You may use rubbing alcohol, soap, and specialty products available at your pet shop. Do not use chlorine bleaches or industrial cleansers such as Ajax or Comet, because their residues are often toxic to snakes. Lysol is particularly dangerous.

Always wash your hands well with soap and water after handling your snake or the cage accessories. Snakes, like most animals, may harbor dangerous bacteria such as Salmonella.

Okay, now go watch your snake and have some fun!

Dr. Sprackland started keeping snakes in 1960. There are still snakes in his life!

Monkey Brain Trains Robot For Rehab

When you receive the Seal you will have the power to recover from whatever ill befalls you. Now there is good news if you are paralyzed--a monkey has successfully controlled the walking of a robot with his thoughts. Duke University researchers teamed up with the Japan Science and Technology Agency and accomplished the feat halfway across the world. The monkey walked in North Carolina and the robot walked in Japan.

The monkey Idoya was a rhesus monkey. Rhesus monkeys are small, never weighing more than about 25 pounds. So Idoya walked on a tiny treadmill made specially for the little monkey. The robot in Japan walked synchronized in real time with the monkey. The robot was 5 feet tall and walked on its own treadmill exactly in step with the little monkey thousands of miles away.

Idoya was outfitted with electrodes that read signals from her brain. The brain cells sent motor and sensory signals through the electrodes into the electronic equipment which processed them and instructed the robot how to walk. When you are paralyzed your nervous system is damaged and no longer can carry the signals that originate in the brain and end up commanding the limbs of the body how to move.

But your brain continues to send those messages even when the circuit is cut and those messages can not reach the limbs. Since your brain is still sending those messages, all you need is prosthetic devices to walk and move again. By studying the signals Idoya's brain sent to the electrodes, researchers discovered that neurons in different parts of the brain send signals in different "phases" and frequencies.

And at one point in the experiment, the robot continued walking even after Idoya had stopped walking. So the monkey was thinking about walking more even after having stopped walking. The goal is to build prosthetic devices that can enable a paralyzed person to move. But that goal is not enough. There is a grander dream that goes along with it.

The brain can talk to the machines. The dream is to find out how the machines can respond to the brain. That way the brain could sense the feeling of touch through sensors in the machine. It is a little chilling to see the possibilities of the interaction of machines and the vital organs of people. It definitely seems a little like science fiction, but today it is no more fiction. Today it is becoming a reality.

When you are sealed God will give you power to recover from all sorts of diseases and illnesses. Sometimes you will need the help of physicians and counselors, and even, in a case like this, of engineers. But God will give you the power of recovery, and you will be able to recover against all odds. You will be able to move mountains like genetic predisposition to disease. You can overcome that.

And though you must die at some point you will lengthen your life when you are sealed. You will live a longer and better life today, and you will have the promise of eternal Life when you receive the Seal.

Anomalies of AutismQuestions for Scientists and Researchers Interested in Consciousness

Questions for Scientists

What I have to offer is a unique perspective on autism one that is seldom addressed, often ignored, and frequently denied. I have engaged in thought, word and picture sending, joining and receiving for many years. My students have said that I send strong thoughts like "radio waves." I can quantitatively prove that a transfer occurs when I am sending. Joining and receiving is qualitative. Perhaps there is a way to measure it.

I would like to engage a group of open minded scientists willing to explore currently unexplainable phenomena. My hope is that with access to brain imaging technology and research facilities, these anomalies can be addressed in a respectful manner.

I have many unanswered questions. Pursuing the answers might help us understand and accommodate individuals with autism and also enhance our understanding of consciousness. These phenomenal individuals are being under utilized.

These are some of the questions I would like to see investigated: Can current brain imaging technology answer some of these?

Do our brain wave frequencies entrain during thought joining creating a sympathetic resonance?

What areas of the brain are being activated during the exchange?

Is it possible that two distinct frequencies blended together form a third frequency? (Think of binaural beats or chemical changes) How does this shared frequency affect communicative output?

Can 'joining' be compared to the synchronization of coupled oscillators? Does this also help to explain group resonance?

Does the agent serve as a catalyst, providing the stimulus necessary for the individual to access a response? Are his high-speed fleeting thoughts and chaotic flow being entrained by magnetic signals of the agent? Could these radiations produce image or thought receiving experiences by acting on the temporal lobe?

Do sub-vocalizations enhance the process?

Is it a right brain connection? Is that why the language used when paired with an agent is often prosaic?

Are brain wave patterns altered during interactions?

Does aligning with agent's rhythm help genes perform in a synchronized manner? Does entrainment to the dominant rhythm of the agent further help the individual attune to the frequency of the earth? Do these signals smooth out circadian rhythm?

Is 'joining' occurring at a subconscious level? Does it assist in tapping into an emanating universal field of knowledge
in addition to the knowledge base of the agent? Does adhering to the agent's vibration help the brain filter material? Does it help the person with severe autism experience typical perceptual reality thru the agent's sensory system?

Is the pineal gland primarily hyper active in kids with severe autism causing them to let go of ego based consciousness? Is it hypo active in higher functioning individuals resulting in rigid concrete behavior? Might pineal gland output fluctuations be affected by the joining process?

How does their often painful sensory experiences and the disruption that occurs when moving or crossing sensory channels encourage them to retreat? Is it the fear, anxiety and pain that drives them back into a deeper way of being?

What role if any does the reticular activating system play?

And the list goes on! Please look beyond the phrasing of some of my questions. I am not an academic, scientist, or researcher. My paradigm is based on observation of my personal experience. I have videos available for viewing by qualified scientists or researchers.

Thank you,

I have served as a teacher of individuals with autism for 18 years. What they have taught me was to be sure of nothing, and open myself to the extraordinary. It has been and continues to be a remarkable ride. My articles describe the thought receiving capabilities and so much more of the children I have worked with. Their directive, "Open Your Heart and Join" says it all. Please pass on my articles to anyone who may benefit. I am happy to serve as a navigator/subject. Comments and questions are appreciated.

Metabolic Bone Diseases in Exotic Animals

Metabolic bone disease is optionally described as osteoporosis, cage paralysis, nutritional secondary hyper Parathyroid, rickets, and paper bone disease. Actually imbalance between calcium and phosphorous is also one of the causes. In such case a well balanced diet will help with proper absorption and retention of calcium in the bones.

Pets suffer from diseases caused by deficiency of proper nutrients in the diet apart from diseases from infection from bacteria and viruses. A deficiency of vitamin D, calcium, and phosphorus causes metabolic bone diseases. The major cause of this disease is due to improper care in dietary needs of animals. Ironically, this disease can also be caused by high consumption of proteins.

Animals out in the wild have lesser chance of developing metabolic bone disease. These animals get their prey as a whole which means the meat is taken in with so many other items like skin, fat, fur, bones, feathers, intestines, etc. Different parts of the prey provide different nutrients and the animal feeding on it gets a balanced diet by eating it.

Imbalance of calcium is THE major cause of Metabolic bone disease in exotic pets. Meat fed to Pets contains very less quantity of calcium and high levels of phosphorous. Phosphorous causes calcium deficiency by decreasing the capacity of the body to absorb the available calcium. Same result can be expected if the meat consists only of neonatal prey. Recommended ratio of calcium and phosphorous is 20:1. Historical evidence suggests that organs such as heart, kidney and liver will have calcium and phosphorus in the ratio of 1:44 which is quite alarming. Excess intake of vitamin A suppresses the absorption capacity of vitamin D and even of calcium, resulting in neuromuscular abnormalities and poor motor reflexes.

A well-balanced diet, and bones with scanty meat on it like ribs, necks, thigh bones, given twice a week will ensure proper health for your exotic pets. A more expensive method is commercially designed diets because it has the required composition. If you are worried about metabolic bone diseases of your exotic animals, you must understand these basic facts - calcium is necessary for proper bone growth as well as proper functioning of muscles. Calcium activates enzymes. The function of vitamin D is to maintain the proper ratio of calcium and phosphorous in the blood stream.

Troodos National Forest Park - A Haven Of Wildlife And History

The Troodos National Forest Park is located at the centre of Cyprus, covers an area of 9337 hectares and hosts invaluable plant and animal habitats. Many villages maintaining local culture, tradition and customs can be found scattered all over the Troodos range.

The Troodos forest occupies the heart of the range and includes its highest peak, Mount Olympus, which is also the highest peak on the entire island. The area was designated a National Forest Park in 1992 in an effort to safeguard it's rich plant and animal life and to research the values and functions of the area, be they ecological, scientific, recreational or economic.

To say that Troodos is rich in wildlife would be something of an understatement, with the area featuring 770 plant species, 12 of which are exclusive to the Park; that is, they can't be found anywhere else in Cyprus or indeed, the world. The Park constitutes the main habitat in Cyprus for many plant species, such as the wild service tree, cotoneaster and barberry. As a result of these characteristics, Troodos is considered a botanical heaven and has been classified among the most important mountainous habitats of flora in Europe.

It's not only plant life that brings people from all over the world to visit Troodos however; animal life in the Park is also rich and of high conservational value. The warmest seasons of the year see various reptile species appear, including the blunt-nosed viper and the Mediterranean chameleon. Several mammals can be found in the Park too. A casual visitor to the north and west parts of the Park is the rare - and scarcely seen - Cyprus mouflon, while the fox and hedgehog, which both live in the Park, have evolved to an indigenous subspecies, most likely due to the long periods of isolation in the habitats of Cyprus. Bats can also be found in large numbers in Troodos, setting up home in the old buildings and mines that are strewn across the Park.

The bats aren't the only species enjoying the old buildings situated in the Park, however. Tourists from all over the world come to the Park, not only enjoy the wildlife but to discover 12th to 15th century churches, winemaking villages and pine forests, as well as some monasteries dating from the Byzantine period. Quaint villages offering shops and bakeries and a laid back alpine atmosphere are also just waiting to be found by travellers visiting the Park.

Seeing all there is to be seen at Troodos National Forest Park can be a challenge, but with hiking trails covering a total of 50 kilometres as well as mountain cycling opportunities, roaming around the Park will certainly be an adventure. So, whether you hike, cycle or simply go for the option of car hire in Cyprus, the Troodos National Forest Park in particular, won't fail to impress even the most jaded traveller.
